Blog Entry 5 - Digital Acting

http://www.digitalacting.com/2011/02/02/the-lines-are-blurring/

^ I used this article because the digital article in the unit 5 blog question was not working.

1. Is this acting or is this animation?
This movie Rango, main character played by Johnny Depp, is him acting but he is not going to be shown in the movie, the video makers are going to make him a reference to the movie character.

2. Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?
No, for me, i don't think animated characters should be eligible for acting awards because i know it's still someone acting for the animated person they are going to play but the video makers would still probably change how the animated character moves so it's not really the actor who plays it. I'm not sure if that made sense because it's hard for me to explain.. So, therefore

3. Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?
No, i don't think human actors will ever become obsolete because i bet not everyone in the world likes animated things and they would prefer humans acting than any animation. Some people will loose jobs if something like this happens. I think that the magic of movies would be gone if humans don't really play in them anymore. I don't think anyone would want to take out human actors, that's really weird if they do. Therefore, no, i don't think humans will become obsolete.

Blog Entry 6 - Logo Parodies that speak the truth

1. Describe the logo using the language of the Elements and Principles of Design.
This logo describes BP in a big way. They used color, texture, contrast, and creativity. The green and yellow, which represents BP, really pops out and the bird, its wings aren't like straight, it's curvy, it looks like it's covered with oil. The creativity is really good because birds are really impacted by BP and it's really sad. So, by someone doing this as a logo, is really good.

2. Describe the symbols used in the logo. Why did the graphic artist use such imagery?
The symbol they used was a bird, i think it is a goose or duck. It is probably really symbolic to the artist and tp BP, it is really imprtant because birds are very harmed by BP and they need to find a way to stop it. I think the artist chose this symbol because it really meant a lot to him that birds are affected by BP and it should be stopped.

3. What does this logo say of BP's coroporate identity?
This logo says a lot about BP's coroporate identity because many animals are affected by BP and they want to stop it and having a bird representing one of their logo's is really good.

Blog Entry 4 - From Spray Can to light: Graffiti Revisited

^ This is one of my favourite light graffiti pictures. It is a toy saxophone where someone used light graffiti to draw music notes on top of it and they also put a vibrant green light that is flowing how music would flow around. I really like this light graffiti because, for me, i love music and i play a clarinet so i can compare that to this toy saxophone. This picture has a very mellow feel and it really get's a persons attention. The artist really tried their best to make this picture look good. He incorporated color, contrast, size, emphasis, and creativity.  The color in this picture really goes well because they put in a more dark background, and having vibrant light colors just popping up, is very cool. The lime green, bright purple and the shadows of the light really looks well. The contrast, it goes from very dark to totally intense colors. The size is really good because it doesn't look too big and it's not too small. The emphasis is probably the instrument itself, the music notes, and the green flow line. It really just pops out. The person who made this put quite of a creativity to it. Someone could have just probably took a picture of an instument in daylight and put some random colors to it with light graffiti, but this person chose to but darker colors and the light graffiti to have vibrant colors which is really cool.

^ This is one of my favourite street graffiti pictures. It's a painting of what it seems like, a man (i think it's a real man or maybe the artist painted him as well, i'm not sure) diving off a diving board and into a pool or water. This picture because it really makes you open your eyes because it really is so cool. The artist put so much detail into it. The color, contrast, size, creativity, and so much more. The color really suits it because it blends in with the wall and the stairs and the artist didn't really put a lot of new colors or brighter colors to it, so it was good. The contrast from what it looks like, the underneath the building it's a more darker area of water and when it reaches out of the building, it becomes lighter color of water. From the picture, it looks like it's a pretty large painting and i think that the bigger the size is for this picture, the nicer it would be. It it were to be a whole floor of water like tha, it would probably look so cool as if you were just to fall i there or something like that. So, i say the size is good. The creativity in this picture is very unique. I never saw a picture where it was someone diving into the water, so it is really good.

Compare & contrast:

Both light graffiti and traditional graffiti has it's similarities and differences. A similatriy would be that they both incorporate graffiti, something that is drawn, something that had it's own unique feature, which it is graffiti. A difference would be that traditional graffiti is drawn on something while light graffiti is drawn too, but it is not drawn on something, it is using only light, not with spray paint. Another difference is that when you do light graffiti, in that single picture shot you takse with light graffiti, that's all, you can't change it's color or how it's suppose to looks like, you have to take another one. But, in the traditional graffiti, you can always use a spray paint removal or white spray paint to fix the error.

Blog Entry 3 - Mashups and Copyright Law

I choose the diney video (2nd one).

1. What is this mashup trying to communicate? Is it technical experiment, social or political commentary, a comedic parody, or an abstract work of media art?
This mashup is explaining copyright. What is is, that you can't copyright an idea or you can't use someone elsee's work for your own. It is an abstract work od media art and it's also a social commentary, it is a illustrated piece of ork that explains copyrighting.

No, the creator did not break copyright laws in its production because in his video it states each movie he got the scenes from, he put the company it was from and all the movie titles, etc.

3. Do you think that mashup like this requires copyright permission? Why or why not.
Yes, a mashup like this requiers copyright permission because the clips are all from Disney and Pixar movies and of course, it should be credited. It was not made by him so he should thank theperson he got it from so people know and he won't get in trouble.
2. Did its creator follow or break copyright laws in its production?

Blog Entry 2: A Look At Music Videos

Christmas Shoes By; NewSong

Initial reaction: My immediate reaction to this video was a very heartwarming, but sad one. The story is really sad and it makes someone cry really easily. I cried when i watched it because it was a really sad story. It really is a great song and video and i recommend everyone to watch it and listen to the song and the lyrics.

Analysis and interpretation: The form of media is a video and they incorporate real people in the video and they use a sad but really wonder full story to make people listen to it. This music group, NewSong is a contemporary Christian music group so all there songs are about love and God and very soothing. I think that NewSong created this song because they want to give out a message to people. A powerful message that can be understood through everybody; Always love. There could be many more messages, but those are the ones that i think the video is trying to send. Some themes in this video is Always lend a helping hand. Always be true to God and people too and love your parents. Yes, this music group is related to Gospel values. They themselves are a Christian music group and all they're songs are about love and more towards the church type of songs.

Consideration of cultural context: This video is apperantly a true story, but they aren't that sure. It's aout a boy's mother terribly sick and about to pass away and the boy runs to a shoe store to buy a pair of shoes for his mother to wear to heaven but he doesn't have enough money so a stranger helps him and lends him money to buy the shoes. And so, because this story is a really good and loving story, and God was present in it, the group i guess chose to write a song about it. They probably really liked the story and wanted everyone else to know about it and understand it's meaning, so they put it in music.

Expression of aesthetic judgment: The song itself was a story and so the video was a story about what happened and it was a really amazing video. The acting was really good, very believable, the storylive was excellent, the lyrics were very sad but very touching, and the music really went well the video. The visuals afected the song by haveing a greater meaning to the song.

Ongoing reflection: How has your chosen music video influenced your reception of the song?
The music video i chose influenced my reception of the song because i did not think there would be a song that i would cry to, that a song made from a Christian group would made me cry and feel really different in a good way. I feel really good though, now that i know this story and it made me realize more how precious family is.

Blog Entry 1: Art Imitating Media Imitating Life

Facebook is probably the most used social networking site on the internet. It has over 500 mllion active users and it is very useful and very good to have, if you use it right. On Facebook, you can really get to connect with long time friends or friends you see everyday. But there is also a bad side of Facebook; the ammount of personal information users extract on their profile. Some of the information is not good to out to the entire web and these are ways i protect myself from unwanted viewers.

The ways i protect myself from social networking sites like Facebook, would be to be sure that i don't expose myself too much on it. For example, i don't put my real date of birth, who my parents are, and especially my address. I, nor anyone would want some person to stalk where you live, it's so dangerous.
Another way i protect myself on Facebook is using my privacy setting wisely. There is a privacy setting on Facebook and it lets you choose different options such as who can view certain things on your profile. An example is that on Facebook privacy setting, it asks the posts i make, who can view them? There is a drop down box and there are options like, 'Everyone, Friends of friends, Friends only, or Customize'. There are many other things Facebook asks you who can view them such as Family, Relationship status, Website, Birthday, and a few more.

Another way i protect myself is to not post many personal pictures. For me, i do post pictures of me for my profile picture, and i do post other pictures like when i go to a event with my friends, i post the pictures i took on Facebook. For example, i went to a Knights of Columbus party with my friends and we took many pictures of us doing random things and i posted them on Facebook but i didn't say where we were at. I think these kinds of photos are safe to put. What pictures i don't think is safe to put are like personal documents, birth certificate, or somewhere where it's not really good to post those pictures of Facebook. Like if you go some personal place with your family or take picture of your family members or other important things, it shouldn't be really good to post them because sometimes your family members don't like their picture posted and all. By doing this, you can protect yourself from stalkers. So those people won't know who your family is or where you are at or anything.

Therefore, it is so important to keep your personal stuff to yourself and only yourself and plus family members. You don't want annoying advetisements every page you go on, and you don't want to be pursued into clicking their links or buying any of their stuff. Also, it's important to keep you information to yourself because you don't want anyone to stalk you or for them to know more about you. You never know what they could do with the information they get from you. So it is always good to protect yourself from these social networking sites.
